Collecting information is only the first step. Tally marks organise it, a pictograph shows it as pictures, and a bar graph shows it as height — three tools for the same job.
A tally mark is one line for each item — grouped in fives, with the fifth line crossing the other four, so you can count in fives instead of ones.
