A preposition is a small word that tells you where, when or how something is placed. Tiny words — but they decide whether a sentence sounds right or wrong.
Picture a cat 🐈 and a box 📦. Every preposition of place describes where the cat is.
🎯 The three that get confused most
IN
inside something with sides
in a box · in the room · in water
ON
touching a surface
on the table · on the wall · on the bus
AT
an exact point or place
at the door · at the bus stop · at school
Between vs Among: use between for two things ("between Ravi and Meera"), and among for three or more ("among the five brothers").
In, on and at come back — but now the rule is completely different. Learn it as a ladder, from the longest stretch of time down to the shortest.

Two odd ones to memorise: we say in the morning / in the afternoon / in the evening — but at night. And when a day is added, "on" wins: on Monday morning.
Some words always take one particular preposition. There is no rule — these simply have to be learnt, and AISSEE tests them every year.
