Geometry starts with a single dot — a point. Everything else, from a line to a whole circle, is built from a handful of these simple starting ideas.
The difference is all about how far each one goes.
| Term | What it is |
|---|---|
| Point | an exact location — no length, no width |
| Line | goes on forever in BOTH directions |
| Ray | starts at one point, goes on forever in ONE direction |
| Line segment | has two fixed endpoints — a measurable length |
A closed shape made only of straight sides is a polygon. Its name tells you exactly how many sides it has.

A circle is every point that sits exactly the same distance from ONE fixed centre.
