Tools of Geometry 🧰

Each tool has one main job — knowing which one to reach for is half the battle.

Tool	What it's for
Ruler	drawing and measuring straight lines
Compass	drawing circles and arcs, and copying an exact length
Protractor	measuring and drawing angles in degrees
Divider	comparing the lengths of two line segments

Game 1 — Match the Tool

Drawing a Circle ⭕

The compass's pointed end sits at the centre; the pencil end is opened out to exactly the radius.

🪜 The steps

Mark the centre point where the compass needle will sit.
Open the compass so the gap between the needle and pencil equals the radius you want.
Holding the needle firmly in place, turn the compass all the way around once.

Game 2 — Set the Compass

Bisecting a Line or an Angle ➗

"Bisect" means to cut exactly in half. A compass can find the exact midpoint of a segment, or split an angle into two equal parts, without any measuring.

A perpendicular bisector of a line segment does two jobs at once: it passes through the exact MIDPOINT, and it crosses at exactly 90°.
