Reported Speech 🗣️

Reporting a STATEMENT is only the beginning. Questions and commands each need their own small twist — and once you know them, you can report anything anyone says.

Part 1 · Yes/No Questions

Part 2 · Wh-Questions

Part 3 · Commands

Mock Test

1

Reporting Yes/No Questions ❓

Add "if" or "whether", remove the question mark, and put the words back in statement order.

"Are you coming?" she asked. → She asked if I was coming.

⚠️

Word order flips back to a statement: "Are you coming" (question order) becomes "I was coming" (statement order) — the helping verb moves after the subject.

2

Reporting Wh-Questions 🔍

Keep the question word (where, what, why, how) — just no "if" or "whether" this time.

"Where do you live?" he asked. → He asked where I lived.

Game 2 — Report the Wh-Question

3

Reporting Commands 📢

A command uses "told" and the word "to" — with "not to" for a negative command.

"Close the door," he said. → He told me to close the door.

"Don't touch that," she said. → She told him not to touch that.
